Chlorine towels are a volume problem, not a one-load problem

One practice is two or three towels per swimmer. A household with two kids on a team is a stack by Wednesday. A home washer can do the work if you stop stuffing it. A home dryer often cannot finish the stack before the next 5 AM practice.

Shake deck grit and grass into a trash can before the wash. Wash towels with towels, not with school clothes. Chlorine residue and damp terry will transfer smell. Use the labeled amount of HE detergent. Extra soap does not cancel pool chemical; it leaves a film.

ENERGY STAR’s clothes-washer guidance is a useful reminder that overload is the usual reason a cycle fails. If the drum barely turns, split the bag.

Parkas, lined jackets, and anything with a waterproof shell need a care-label pause. Some can tumble on low. Some should hang. Do not assume a public dryer is the right tool because the piece is “just a jacket.”

Why a home dryer stays damp after a meet week

Henry County August air is already wet. A stacked apartment dryer that vents poorly will stop on damp every time you add a full meet bag. Pull towels when they are actually dry, not when the buzzer sounds. If the center is cool and wet, run more time or move them to a larger dryer.

1. Confirm whether pickup reaches your street.

3. Drive to Marietta at 680 Powder Springs St Suite 180 (about 7 AM–11 PM, last wash about 10 PM).

Pickup is usually the better meet-week choice if you cannot spare a store visit between carpools. A drive is better if you need the towels the same afternoon and can stay for self-serve. Check the Stockbridge page for updates only—do not treat it as an open store.

Sort meet towels from everyday household laundry

Keep a mesh or dedicated bag for swim only. Everyday bath towels can share a home load. Meet towels that sat on a wet deck should not share a drum with dress shirts. If a towel picked up sunscreen or snack residue, pretreat that spot or write it on the drop-off note.

Team-logo parkas and extra-large meet towels are the pieces that jam home machines. Those are the ones worth a larger drum. Flip-flops and wet sneakers are a different job; ask staff before you put rubber in a public washer.

Do not send solvent-soaked shop rags in the swim bag. Ask staff. Some of those items cannot go in public machines.

A midweek bag so Saturday is not the only opening

The families who keep up wash Tuesday or Wednesday, not Saturday morning before warm-ups. Saturday is when every other Henry County household is also behind. A midweek pickup or a Wednesday drop-off at an open store leaves Saturday for the meet.

Write a short note: “chlorine swim towels, fully dry, no fabric softener if you can.” Fabric softener can cut absorbency on terry. Then put one dry towel aside for the next practice before the bag leaves the house.

Do not wait on a rumored Stockbridge date. Wash the stack this week.
